The International Criminal Court (ICC) is investigating alleged Russian cyberattacks targeting civilian infrastructure as possible war crimes. This is the first time international prosecutors are investigating cyberattacks, opening up a new frontier.
Prosecutors are working with Ukrainian teams to conduct a probe that might lead to international rulings against Russia. Reports claim that the ICC might be looking as far back as 2015, the year after Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine. This follows a March 2023 arrest warrant for President Vladimir Putin for allegedly illegally deporting children from Ukraine.
Cisco has announced it will set up a cybersecurity center in Taiwan. As part of the move, the US-based networking equipment maker will train personnel in the sector with the local government. It’s all part of what the company calls its Taiwan Digital Acceleration Plan 3.0.
The company is hopeful that this push for greater “threat intelligence and cyber readiness” will not be the last. Guy Diedrich, the company’s global innovation officer, said, “The nice thing about the digital acceleration program is that there is no ceiling on investments. We continue to make them."
Hacker “Tyler,” 22, has been arrested in Spain for his alleged participation in the MGM Resorts International cyberattack. He was arrested while boarding a flight to Italy, and he has been linked to the Scattered Spider group, which is responsible for a wide range of major hacks of companies like LastPass and DoorDash.
The suspect is believed to have hacked corporate accounts for the group, leading to the theft of millions of dollars. His work involved SIM-swapping to outmaneuver multi-factor authentication.
